An invitation into sensory rest, sacred pause, and peace in the midst of a noisy world.

Hi Friend,

July often arrives with celebration, fireworks, travel, full calendars, and the energy of summer in full swing. It can be joyful—and also loud.

This year, as we mark 250 years of American independence, we pause with gratitude for the gift of freedom and those who have helped preserve it through generations. Freedom is something we honor, remember, and steward.

And while we celebrate outward freedom, many women are quietly longing for another kind of freedom too:

Freedom from constant noise.
Freedom from overstimulation.
Freedom from always being “on.”
Freedom to breathe, to be still, and to hear God again.

That’s where sensory rest becomes a gift.

Sensory rest is the practice of reducing the input that overwhelms your mind, body, and nervous system. It may look like stepping away from screens, turning down the volume, sitting in silence, dimming the lights, or simply giving yourself permission to pause.

Sometimes the most healing thing you can do is create a little more quiet.

"Therefore, I am now going to allure her; I will lead her into the wilderness and speak tenderly to her." - Hosea 2:14

What I love about this verse is that it reframes quietness. The wilderness is often viewed as a place of scarcity, isolation, or waiting. Yet here, God presents it as a place of invitation, intimacy, and restoration.

Notice the gentle progression in His words:

"I will allure her" — God's invitation is gentle, not demanding.

"I will lead her" — He takes the initiative; we do not have to manufacture rest.

"Into the wilderness" — away from the noise, distractions, and competing voices that constantly vie for our attention.

"And speak tenderly to her" — the purpose is relationship, not merely retreat.

The quiet place is not an end in itself. It becomes the place where we rediscover God's tenderness, guidance, and presence. It is often where we remember what is true, hear His voice more clearly, and find our souls renewed.

This month, may you embrace the freedom to step away from the noise and make space for the One who is gently calling you closer.

Take a quiet moment and consider:

  • Where do I feel overstimulated right now—mentally, emotionally, or physically?
  • What kind of quiet am I longing for in this season?
  • What is one small way I can create space for peace this week?

Prayer: "Lord, thank You for the gift of freedom—both outward and inward. Thank You for Your gentle invitation to come away with You. Quiet the noise around me and within me. Help me release what is draining and receive the peace You freely give. Teach me how to rest in Your presence, hear Your voice, and create space for what truly matters. Lead me into the quiet places where I can rediscover Your tenderness, guidance, and love. In Jesus' name, Amen."

Choose one short pocket of time this week and intentionally reduce stimulation.

Try this:

  • Take five slow breaths
  • Sit quietly with God or simply rest

Even a few minutes of less input can create more peace.
