Holiday Greetings to You!

One of the things I love about this time of year are Christmas traditions. I feel a sense of comfort in the familiar, and a connection to the past, to loved ones and memories shared. Among my traditions are reading the book of Luke, watching classic Christmas movies with my husband, reading Christmas stories, baking sugar cookies and biscotti, and decorating the tree as I listen to Amy Grant sing, Tennessee Christmas. Over the past 45 years I've collected a variety of ornaments and each year as I lay them out, it's like unwrapping one memory at a time. Hours later, I feel like I've created a masterpiece when the tree is decorated!

In mid-November I visited my mom again to share an early Thanksgiving together and experienced a Thanksgiving miracle! I share about it in this month's article, The Gift of Kindness by Jen Stone-Sexton (Click link to open the PDF)

We all experience loss in our lives and the holidays can intensify feelings of sadness, loneliness, anger and grief. Some years the holidays are full of wonder and magic, and others, full of pain and tragic. It is important to honor and acknowledge what you are feeling. Journaling, sharing with a trusted friend, life coach, or counselor are healthy ways to process the tidal waves of emotion that can tend to overwhelm. In this article by Barbara Hill at Holding Space Counseling, she shares 3 Ways to Honor Your Grief. (Click link to open the PDF)

In this season of festivity, the challenge for me is to pace myself and only say, "Yes" to a few things. Like winter, we all need time to be silent and rest.  I am intentionally slowing down and creating space to focus on what is most important. Where in your life can you carve out space and some silent nights?
